Mark Setterland “I strive to create trust by bringing integrity to all our engineering services.” Setterland and Associates’ owner and principal engineer, Mark Setterland, directly supervises all of the firm’s technical services. Mark, a civil engineer licensed in California and Nevada, brings 25-plus years of construction-related experience, including nearly two decades in engineering, to every Setterland and Associates project. Mark continues to provide high-caliber engineering, planning, and building plan review support to public and private clients throughout the West. His extensive field work and training, coupled with his collaborative style and personal commitment to quality and integrity, have solidified Mark’s reputation as an exceptional civil engineer. Mark’s structural design engineering is integral to significant structures located up and down the West Coast. Through his association with the Structural Engineers Association and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, Mark is a recognized expert in structural design within California’s high seismic region (Zone 4). As a full-service engineer, Mark possesses comprehensive knowledge of pertinent civil engineering, building, plumbing, mechanical, energy, and handicapped building code requirements. For years, Mark has been a leader in designs incorporating alternative and green building materials, including foam insulated concrete, straw bale, and stabilized earth. In addition to his design, plan review, and inspection services, Mark is in constant demand as a research, evaluation, and repair recommendation consultant for insurance companies, and as a reliable source of expert legal testimony in arbitration and litigation. Mark has personally been involved in hundreds of forensic field observations and has testified in several dozen construction- and building code-related legal actions in jurisdictions from Orange County to Eureka. Mark’s diverse educational background—a B.A. in English from the University of La Verne, a B.S. Equivalence in Civil Engineering and two years of graduate study in structural engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona—and extensive field construction experience enable him to prepare comprehensive, effective reports and testimony. Before forming Setterland and Associates, Mark served as Division Manager of Building Services for the North San Francisco Bay Area office of Willdan Associates. Mark’s resume also includes a tenure as Contract Building Official for Corte Madera, and stints as a project design engineer for Zucco Associates in Santa Rosa and Sullivan Engineering in Upland.
